Tea with a Naturalist and Backyard Jungle

Join Conservation Nebraska for a double feature event: Tea with a Naturalist and Backyard Jungle.

Relax with your favorite beverage, and join us in learning from our guest speakers: Matthew Jones, Nebraska Master Naturalist and Jonathan Nikkila, Nebraska Master Naturalist, photographer, and author of the children’s book, Bugs In My Backyard.
 

Matt will be discussing the Master Naturalist Program and the role it plays in conservation across the state. Jonathan will talk us through his backyard jungle and give out a few tips on the conservation practices he employs in his garden and his life.

The Nebraska Master Naturalist Program is a public and private partnership supported by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Nebraska Environmental Trust, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Nebraska Master Naturalist Foundation. The program recruits, trains, manages and provides resources for Naturalist members participating in interpretation and outreach, resource management, citizen science, and outdoor skills and recreation in Nebraska.

Matt Jones is a Certified Master Naturalist and a native of Kearney, Nebraska. Matt has his teaching certificate in secondary Social Studies education and got his start at Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary in 2010, assisting in developing programming and coordinating volunteers. Matt’s primary role in the Nebraska Master Naturalist program is to coordinate and manage the program, by planning future training opportunities, recruiting participants and facilitating training.
 
Jonathan Nikkila was born and raised in Kearney, NE and has been a backyard gardener for 17 years – his backyard is a certified pollinator habitat! Jonathan is a member of the Nebraska Master Naturalist program and he is the author of three books related to insects: a children’s book called “Bugs in My Backyard”, and two Nebraska butterfly field guides – one for the Niobrara River region and another for Central Nebraska
